Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan had 16 children, but many of them died in infancy. The mother of his 14 children was Mumtaz Mahal. At the time of Mumtaz's death eight children were alive. The four daughters were Purhunar Bano Begum (daughter of Shah Jahan by another wife), Jahan-Ara Begum, Roshan-Ara Begum and Gauhar Ara Begum.
